"Maybe the most important part to me: With this DLC, the package now has ALL of the digital Loop Lever games. Since we took the time to add twin-stick support to these titles and make them actually playable on modern controllers, we wanted to make sure all of them were included...One of these titles, World Wars, is super obscure. As a studio we actually volunteered the work on this one to include it in the collection: Our contract was only for ten DLC games, but we did the work on World Wars for free so that Loop Lever support was 100%."
@ToneDeath Yeah, that's what I've seen in screenshots, but that's not the way it should be. I guess it's part of the rush that made them give the games as free updates/DLC, but it certainly doesn't match the rest of the collection.

SNK 40th ANNIVERSARY Collection has received a new patch today that includes 9 free games to add to the collection. The 9 games include the likes of Sasuke vs. Commander, Chopper 1, Fantasy and Time Soldiers. Two more games are also available to download free via the Nintendo Switch eShop. The two games (titled Beast Busters and SAR: Search And Rescue) are part of a DLC bundle that can be found on the SNK 40th ANNIVERSARY Store page.
In November, SNK fans are set to get a treat in the form of the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection(Opens in a new window) on the Nintendo Switch ($299.99 at Best Buy)(Opens in a new window) . It will offer 13 classic SNK games to play on one cartridge in updated form along with a bunch of extras. However, it turn out 13 is not the total number of games this collection includes.
As Nintendo Everything(Opens in a new window) reports, during PAX West 2018 last week, publisher NIS America and developer Digital Eclipse held a talk where they explained more about the contents of the collection. It was also revealed that 10 more games will be added to the line-up after launch. Those new titles will take the form of a free download.
But what if this selection of games doesn't appeal to you? Well, the good news is there are even more games on the way. In about a month or so. For whatever reason, the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection isn't actually complete yet but will be on December 11th. What's happening is even more classic SNK arcade titles are being added to the collection as a free download. Which is excellent. If a bit weird. You'd assume it'd be better to just launch the game after it has a full line up or titles, but who am I to judge. Oh yeah. A game reviewer.
Released just last month on Nintendo Switch, the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection just delivered an early Christmas present to anyone who currently owns or has been considering buying the collection: 11 more free games.
Like a lot of classic collections of its type, SNK 40th Anniversary Collection is an anthology of fourteen classic SNK titles. By their count on the official website there are thirteen, but I counted six times and came up with fourteen. Here they are, in list form:
Along with all the games emulated to near perfection (a couple of small blemishes here and there, but nothing too noticeable), SNK 40th Anniversary Collection also includes a highly detailed museum mode that covers nearly the entire spectrum of SNK history. This includes games that aren't in the collection (well, yet anyway), and really gets into detail about some of your favorites. It's well worth exploring when you aren't dropping grenades on fools or teaching foes a lesson.
That said, the game selection is a bit on the light side. The core game release comes with 13 titles, as well as some of them having their home games intact. That's pretty low compared to, say, Sega Genesis Classics. But NIS America has promised free games to download in the months ahead, including the classic Time Soldiers. I just wish they were released beforehand. It's nice to have them on the way, but I want to play them now, y'know?
But I digress. As it stands, SNK 40th Anniversary Collection is a valuable package, whether you're a long-time fan of the company or just stepping through their doors for the first time. Their debut entries in this compilation are great, and the fact that we're getting more for free is a nice touch. Throw in bonus features and a museum jam-packed with the company's history, and you have a retro package that's finely suited for everyone.
This summer, Prime members can download more than 20 popular SNK titles completely free. The first wave of games began with seven titles which became available from May 2020, and now the second wave begins with an additional seven, specially selected titles such as METAL SLUG 2 and SNK 40th ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION, starting July 28th, 2020.
